In the beginning of this schoolyear, students from both Etis IB and Mattliden IB were brought together to organize the first ever Mattlide Etis CAS day. This event had the purpose of bringing our two IB schools closer to each other, while also presenting students with an opportunity to gain CAS that they might be in need of. For this purpose the joint Mattliden-Etis CAS Day committee was formed those of IB students from both schools with the greatest passion to get more and more of those delectable and irresistible CAS hours (all jokes aside, it wasn't all that bad).
In September the rigorous planning had started, accompanied by great confusion as this was the first time this kind of event would be organised. Adding fuel to the fire, our committee found trouble arranging meetings due to our busy IB schedules. There were mountains of questions, such as: How many people will participate? What facilites are available? Will potential prizes be paid for by the school? Faced with such a gruelling challenges, our committee was exhausted and at the brink of losing all hope. However, with the wholehearted support of our supervising teachers, paired with numerous hours of intense online meetings and rigorous planning, we managed to find anwers for all the important questions.
Although there were feelings of uncertainty regarding whether our efforts had been sufficient or not, the CAS day itself transpired without major difficulties. Students were able to attends stalls such as dance, chess, debate, drawing and basketball/football, while also having access to a Bake Sale. Even considering there were significantly more attendees than originally expected, the masses of participators appeared content with our arranged activities. Some students stayed at the school gym to play football even after the scheduled day had concluded.
Speaking for the joint committee, I would like to thank our supervising teachers, James McWhirr and Ulla Sarin, who initiated this event and helped us of the committee along the way. Our appreciation also goes out to Kenneth Lai who assisted us during the day itself. We hope that this event could become a tradition between our schools, as it has the potential of creating unity between us IB students in different schools which there is a lack of right now.
For any DP1:s reading this: remember that this event will take place in Etis next year, and that taking part in organising it will be a great way to do your CAS project.
