The House of Representatives Standing Committee on the Environment and Energy has opened the inquiry for nuclear energy generation in Lake Macquarie. Submissions about nuclear energy at Eraring, Vales Point and Munmorah can be made to the committee inquiry by 16 September 2019.

In the Newcastle Herald, Labor's Member for Shortland, Mr Pat Conroy wrote:

"Nuclear power is the fool's gold of energy policy. On the surface, beautiful, but when tested it proves to be a mirage."

Nuclear reactor concernsTWO sites at Lake Macquarie and one site on the Central Coast have been identified as possible locations on which nuclear power plants could be constructed.
