Photoshop is a software that can be used to edit and create both sketches and concepts as well as creating and editing textures to make them suit your need.
Photoshop provides a variety of tools to help edit photos, this can be used in the process of creating concepts or in the process of 'Photobashing' this term refers to the process of taking multiple images and making them into one singular concept.
looking at the ui it follows a similar format to the other software's that we have looked at within this unit. This helps to make the transition between the softwares to be more simple and user friendly.
Thumbnailing
During this weeks session we will be looking at the process of thumbnailing. Thumbnailing is a crucial part of the design process, it helps designers to collected a variety of designs and demonstrates the ability to develop an idea further.
You will need;
Pen/Pencil
Paper Or a Computer
Photoshop
STAGE 2
Next we are going to look into how we can develop these thumbnails into more detailed designs, what you are going to do now is take the silhouettes and add elements of shading, look at the light values to add highlights and shading.
STAGE 3
Once we have got some light values we will look at the examples that we have created and select the ones that have the best potential as fully fledged designs. look at the shading you have done, the dynamics of the creature and which ones you want to develop further.
STAGE 4
For the next stage you will need to create a line drawing of your favourite designs, if you are unable to decide on one ask some of your fellow peers to help rate the designs
STAGE 5
Once you have narrowed down the designs that are your favourite you will then colour the final one and yopu could also add variety to the image by experimenting with colour and creating different view points of the design. Think about how it would look from a side and back view as well as the front.
This is what your concept should follow,
Stage 1 rough sketches (1-2 minuet sketches)
Stage 2 More detailed sketches with some colour (5-10 minuet sketches)
Stage 3 Finalised piece with full colour (10-20 minuet sketches)
Here is another example that utilizes the idea of silhouettes instead of sketches for those who struggle with drawing.
Stage 1- create a series of silhouettes.
Stage 2 - add some light and dark values to the ones you like to add more detail.
Stage 3 - full colour line drawing.
