Ways this career sector could change in the future

Following the pandemic, there will be certain sectors that boom with new waves of work - think about employment lawyers, what issues may arise now more people are working from home? Does your home working set-up comply with safety regulations?

Ways of working have changed and there is no looking back. Many law firms are adopting a flexible approach when it comes to office hours and gone are the days where you would be working at your own desk in the office Monday to Friday, 9 -5 and beyond. Working from home is here to stay.

Technology has improved. Legal transactions have continued throughout the pandemic, and digital signatures are now readily accepted by clients and organisations (even HM Land Registry have got on board!). These advances, together with AI technology are speeding up transactions, getting rid of time consuming admin work.

3 Top Tips for Employability and CV's

  • Your CV should be concise and well structured.

  • What makes you stand out? Extra curricular activities, hobbies and volunteering work all contribute to your skill set, so be sure to include them and highlight what you have learned or gained from each.

  • If you are thinking about applying to a law firm for work experience or for a Vacation Scheme or Training Contract, make sure you do your homework. You need to show that you are interested in the firm you are applying to and that you are aware of the type of work they do. Look up key contacts or transactions, and be armed with questions if you are asked about the firm in an interview. Never just copy and paste your application for different firms.
