The University of Leeds is one of the largest higher education institutions in the UK, and we are renowned globally for the quality of our teaching and research. Leeds is part of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities and has over 36,000 students currently enrolled from 147 countries.

We have one of the widest ranges of degrees in the country, encompassing both the traditional and vocational to allow students to pursue interests across a range of disciplines. Leeds University Union (LUU) is award-winning, one of the biggest in the country with more than 300 clubs and societies.

On campus we have our own hives, sustainable garden where students can pick edibles to take home, and a bike hub to support greener commuting.

We have also pledged to remove all single-use plastic from our campus operations by 2023 and many people in our university community have recently taken part in the big plastic count.

We no longer produce course literature and instead we have invested in our online content which is more environmental and also more up to date.

We have also stopped handing out promotional items and we are promoting sustainable travel to and from events.

We also can't forget all the amazing research and teaching which focuses on biodiversity, sustainability and climate change, as well as volunteering and engagement in the local community.

How you can look after the environment

Invest in reusable bags, bottles and cups rather than using single use packaging

Help the bees by growing some nice plants

Recycle, go beyond what the council collect and look into battery banks, thin plastic stations etc.
