Access Don Johnston Tools

Don Johnston tools are extensions that work in Chrome and Edge. Teachers and students can add these extensions to their preferred browser by navigating to the Classlink launchpad page and selecting the tool.

The Educator Dashboard is a site that acts as the landing page for teachers to manage the Don Johnston suite of tools. Log into the Educator Dashboard with Google CMCSS credentials to access. Reach out to your Technology Integration Coach if your Google credentials do not allow access.

Teachers can access their educator dashboard to monitor, administer and accommodate their students. Sign into a teacher account using Google CMCSS credentials to get started.

Co:Writer is a Google Chrome extension that provides writing assistance. Settings can be customized to each user and includes suggestions based on topics and different language options. In addition to word prediction based on letters typed and topics, Co:Writer also provides dictation.

Snap Explorer

Snap Explorer provides training for teachers and students (3rd grade and up). Get the most out of Snap&Read and Co:Writer by starting with Snap Explorer.


Word Bank Universal is another Don Johnston tool designed to support student learning by providing access to vocabulary that can be sorted by frequency and part of speech. Word lists can be saved and read aloud from the app interface. Word bank works on any web-page. Watch the video to learn more.

Quizbot delivers quick comprehension quizzes for any web page generated in a Google Form. Quizzes can be customized by the teacher to suit specific needs.

  2. Select Sign in with Google

  3. Sign in using CMCSS credentials

  4. Click 'Accept' on Pending Invitation


uPAR is a tool that allows teachers to determine how a student best learns with text. With uPAR, teachers can customize access for their students based on meaningful data. To get started, navigate to educatordashboard.com

Example 1

This sample shows a 10th grade student who reads independently at a 4th grade level. (book icon) This student can access grade level content with either a human reader or a text reader.


Example 2

This sample shows a 10th grade student who reads independently at a 2nd grade level. Human read aloud comprehension is at 5th grade level and the text read aloud is at the 4th grade level. This student will need more than just read aloud to access grade level content.

This graphic shows amount of writing and time spent writing for an individual student. This can be adjusted to show writing amount by class.

This graphic is one of three that show data based on Academic, Transition, and Important words written. More information about each category can be accessed using the link, "More Info."

This graphic shows how many words have been read with Snap&Read activated in a browser for one student. This report can also show results for an entire class.

Each individual student also has a graphic like the one shown here that displays the Text Readability Level of all text accessed using the Snap&Read extension. This graphic is not available when viewing whole group data.
