Swimming
This term has presented its fair share of challenges, particularly with the unpredictable weather. Storms and cold weather often disrupted training sessions, yet the boys and girls remained committed whenever they had the opportunity to be in the pool. They worked hard to refine their technique and put in extra effort to improve on strokes they initially felt less confident with.
The Howick Gala marked the start of the season, where our boys secured 6th place, finishing just behind the girls' team who secured 5th place. This sparked a friendly rivalry that continued throughout the season.
The Clifton Gala was a highlight, with the excitement of competing on home ground bringing out the best in the teams. The boys placed 3rd with 89 points and the girls taking 2nd place, just 8 points ahead.
Unfortunately, the Cowan House Gala had to be cancelled due to one of the characteristic Midlands storms.
The second Howick Gala was a unique experience, as the weather once again reshaped the competition. With only Howick and Clifton teams participating, the boys tied with the girls for third place. Despite the smaller field of competition, the level of racing remained high.
At the Epworth Gala, the boys placed 7th, with the girls leading the way in 5th position. This left just one final opportunity at the A Gala at TWC to try to edge ahead of the girls. The first attempt at the gala was dramatically cut short due to lightning, just as the swimmers were on the starting blocks. A rescheduled date saw the boys finish in 7th place overall, but with a total of 62 points—narrowly surpassing the girls' B Gala score of 60 points from the previous week. This small but significant victory was met with much excitement and celebration, a fitting way to conclude a season filled with perseverance, growth, and healthy competition.
