And so, as if in a flash, the first term has drawn to a close. It seems like yesterday that we were welcoming the children to Clifton, some on their first day of their school journey. Today silence will descend on the campus as the songs fade from the chapel; cars and buses depart, taking with them the laughter and smiles of happy children.
Dear Parents,
World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on 21st of March each year. This date (21/3) represents the trisomy condition, where an individual inherits an extra copy of a chromosome resulting in three, rather than two chromosomes number 21. This extra chromosome results in the condition known as Down Syndrome.
Dear Parents,
With the Grade 5 classroom upgrade well underway the children are familiar with a building site on campus. So it was appropriate that the assembly message on Monday concerned builders and bulldozers, but builders and bulldozers of people. Do we thank, praise and include people or are we critical, unkind and exclusive in our words and actions. The interns who acted as a builder and bulldozer added interest, fun and focus to the message, hopefully embedding it in to the young minds of our boys and girls.
Dear Parents,
Kathryn Peckham, an early years’ education specialist, shared a syndrome in a recent edition of The Guardian “….over the past decade I have seen children enter classrooms with fewer and fewer of the skills needed to begin their formal education. The key culprit, in my opinion? Screen time.
It was a real pleasure to be part of a milestone in the history of Clifton last week and to award a cricket ball to Olivia Skead, the first girl cricketer to take five wickets in a match. On this occasion in the U11C match against Cordwalles, which saw the girls in the team take seven of the nine wickets. I hope Olivia and the other girls are paving the way to be selected for the 1st XI in the near future.
Dear Parents,
Picture the scene: The headmaster is walking down the path towards the Junior Primary. Outside the library two Grade 5 girls walk past him.
“Good morning girls” he says. “Oh, good morning Sir”, one of them replies.
“How are you both?” he asks “Good” comes the response.
Dear Parents
Nottingham Road is living up to its weather reputation as the heat and thunderstorms give way to cooler mist and drizzle. We were fortunate to host a full day of games on Saturday and our children have acquitted themselves extremely well and enjoyed their sports. It has been wonderful to see the participation in such a wide range of activities from chess to tennis, equestrian events to swimming and even some bobsleighing.
Dear Parents,
Since the storms last week, we have enjoyed wonderful weather with full days of games and afternoon practices. But this is Nottingham Road and the weather will change, so we’re enjoying every minute of sunshine while it lasts.
Dear Parents,
We have enjoyed another busy and productive week. The Grade 7s returned from their excursion to Baynesfield with new understanding and experience of leadership, grit and teamwork, which were re-enforced at their Induction Assembly on Monday morning.
Dear Parents,
The first day of school is a wonderful and exciting time. It is such a pleasure to see happy, smiling faces arriving at school, and to see that some of the little ones who at first were anxious about their new worlds, were soon settled and making friends.
