Grade 2 Mini Cricket
As we reflect on Term 1, it has been a promising season for our Grade 1 and 2 boys and girls as they stepped up to the crease for their first experience of mini cricket. This introductory format focuses on fundamental skills and match awareness, with our young players using Slazenger balls to simulate real-game conditions.
Our Grade 2 boys and girls formed five balanced teams, ensuring every player had the opportunity to rotate through batting, bowling, and fielding positions. They showcased growing confidence by improving bowling actions, and developing fielding awareness during mini cricket festivals. Their enthusiasm and commitment to each delivery, whether with bat or ball, were commendable.
The Grade 1 boys and girls joined training post-half-term, missing an early festival due to a school excursion. However, they quickly adapted and fielded three teams in the remaining two festivals, demonstrating excellent energy and engagement in all aspects of play.
It is important to emphasise that these festivals are not results-driven. Instead, they serve as a platform for skill development, enjoyment, and an introduction to match situations. Teams are evenly distributed, ensuring all players receive equal opportunities without A, B, or C rankings.
This has been a fantastic season for our young cricketers, laying a solid foundation for their journey in the sport. We look forward to seeing their continued growth in the terms ahead!
