With a focus on Decomposition, the Senior Primary had a very happy morning with their respective outdoor days, emerging wiser for the experience. There was a deliberate focus on the FBI (fungi, bacteria and invertebrates on campus), as well as the vital role each organism plays within Clifton’s context. Working in small groups, and armed with iPads, imaginary bacteria were created, and our budding Attenboroughs discovered some lovely examples of fungi and invertebrates.
Kindness. Something that isn’t necessarily practiced as much, nor as effectively, as it could be. We could all work a little more at. How lovely, then, to have an opportunity to workshop this with the Grade 4 & 5s on Wednesday, 26 March.
This term, our Grade 6 and 7 children stepped into the shoes of real-world designers, thinkers and collaborators as they took on a challenge that was as imaginative as it was meaningful:
Grade 6 and 7's project-based learning day was highly successful. The Grade 6 children excelled in creating cereal brands and boxes, even adapting to an Eskom power outage. The Grade 7 boys and girls explored biomimicry, developing nature-inspired solutions to real-world problems. Both grades demonstrated strong problem-solving, creative, and critical thinking skills.
Strong interpersonal connections are an integral part of Clifton’s fabric. In an intentional effort to develop and foster these, a very happy Friday morning was spent on the 21st March. The Grade 7s spent some time reconnecting with their Grade 4 buddies in an informal setting, involving a good amount of outdoorsy charging about to inspect forts and enjoy Top Woods. The Grade 7s play a special role in helping the Grade 4s adjust and adapt to the Senior Primary way of life, particularly with Clifton’s servant leadership philosophy in mind.
Valentine’s Day dawned clear and bright this year, and our Grade 7s were soon champing at the bit to get their stalls set up in anticipation of the tea-time Valentine’s Day market.
Our Grade 6 champs had the most thrilling time on their school trip to Drakensville ATKV All Out Adventures and Drakensville ATKV, where they embraced excitement, teamwork, and a little bit of bravery!
Following our inspirational Grade 7 leadership camp, Mr Fleischack’s poignant Grade 7 Induction Assembly took place on Monday the 20 January. With a focus on the importance of grit, integrity and servant leadership, and with children from all grades reminding the Grade 7s of the importance of their role, the ceremonial presenting of Grade 7 ties to the children by their class teachers closed the circle – and reality set in. We look forward to a memorable year!
There’s no better way to begin a year at Clifton than with a little bit of mud. Our Grade 7 cohort of 2025 did just that, sliding into Baynesfield Estate and their leadership camp with a flourish…
Grade 4 is always an adventure, and Term 1 has been no exception! It has been a time of new experiences, from tackling more complex work and longer writing tasks to discovering new subjects and learning how to learn. The children have been busy creating and using a variety of learning tools to help them prepare for their very first quizzes.
The first term of Grade 5 has been filled with excitement as our students have settled into the new school year. Despite the rainy weather, we didn’t let it hinder our learning, and the children had plenty of opportunities to explore and enjoy all that our beautiful campus has to offer.
This term has been filled with exciting experiences and memorable moments for the Grade 6 children. One of the major highlights was their trip to All Out Adventures, where they bravely conquered the famous King Swing Bungee Jump. The boys and girls also partnered with the Grade 2 children for a Read Aloud Day, where they enjoyed reading stories to the younger grades and sharing snacks together.
