World War One, while not the original globally scaled conflict, it is, however, the first to introduce many of the killing machines that we are now familiar with in modern warfare. Interestingly, World War I was brought on by multiple causes but is perhaps most remembered for the one immediate cause --the assassination of a prince. These causes, as we will learn in this opening topic, can be best summarized using the acronym M.A.I.N.A., with each individual component highly interconnected to the rest of the puzzle. Quite a fitting word to encapsulate WWI, don’t you think? Needless to say, no matter which causes one analyzes they all have their roots in the imperialistic rivalries.
