Mr. Wenz's Advice on Getting a 5 on the L.E.Q.
The LEQ is like a DBQ, but without the documents. Luckily, here you will have and choice between three different questions from three different eras. So, you will have more options here, but only 40 minutes to complete the writing. So you must write quickly, but more importantly, think quickly.
So here is my best advice:
1. READ THE PROMPT. Underline and circle what the prompt is asking you to do. Brainstorm ideas on your paper (t-charts, cause/effect diagrams, venn, webs, whatever works for you).
2. READ THE PROMPT AGAIN. Look for potential buckets (A & B) and determine your argument thesis.
3. READ THE PROMPT AGAIN.
4. FINALLY, begin to write, starting with your context and then you thesis statement. Really, sometimes students forget what question they are answering over the course of the essay. Stay laser-focused on ANSWERING ALL PARTS OF THE PROMPT.
