Enhancing affordability with contemporary systems engineering

Friday, September 27, 2019

About the Presentation

Systems Engineering (SE) is a methodical, multi-disciplinary approach for the design, realization, technical management, operations, and retirement of a system. Across a wide variety of industries, SE is used to achieve stakeholder functional, physical, and operational performance requirements in the intended use environment over the planned life of the system within cost, schedule, and other constraints.

As engineering projects become more complex, demand is soaring for Systems Engineers. For environments where affordability is now of primary importance, SE can be a strategic advantage.

This seminar will provide an introduction to SE, an overview of SE application, and insight into contemporary SE innovations.

About the Presenter

Dr. Heidi Davidz is a Principal Engineer in Systems Engineering (SE) at Aerojet Rocketdyne (AR), where she is the enterprise Subject Matter Expert in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and SysML. Currently in the Systems Development, Verification, and Test group, she supports liquid rocket engine programs by performing verification, leading technical integration for qualification engines, supporting hot-fire rocket engine testing, and implementing modern SE tooling.

Previous roles included the MBSE Project Lead, Discipline Lead of SE, Chief Process SE, Stennis Space Center (SSC) Achieving Competitive Excellence Manager, Test Operations Engineer. At SSC, she was certified to run RS-68 hot-fire rocket engine tests. Prior to AR, she worked at The Aerospace Corporation where she provided support for NASA Headquarters and National Security Space projects.

She completed her Ph.D. in the Engineering Systems Division at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Prior to her doctoral studies, Dr. Davidz worked at GE Aircraft Engines as a member of the Edison Engineering Development Program. Through the GE Advanced Courses in Engineering and the University of Cincinnati, she earned an M.S. in Aerospace Engineering. She holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University.

Dr. Davidz is a member of AIAA and INCOSE, where she was accepted into the INCOSE Institute for Technical Leadership in 2018. She was a Part Lead Author for the award-winning Body of Knowledge and Curriculum to Advance Systems Engineering (BKCASE) Systems Engineering Body of Knowledge (SEBOK).
