Tim Curley will cover the storied history of the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) – formerly known as Xerox PARC – and its evolution towards an open innovation business model. PARC is responsible for developing major breakthroughs such as laser printing, Ethernet, the modern personal computer, the graphical user interface (GUI), the desktop paradigm, ubiquitous computing, object oriented programming, amorphous silicon, advancing very large scale integration (VLSI) for semiconductors, and core Internet Protocols (PUP, IPv4 and IPv6). He’ll highlight some of these historical contributions and then segue to cover topics related to PARC’s contemporary research initiatives and open innovation business model. He’ll also provide additional insights into their internally funded projects, client funded engagements, and a bit about PARC startups and spinoff companies. Throughout the presentation, Mr. Curley will highlight the importance of people, collaborative teams, leadership, creativity, entrepreneurship, and personal integrity – how these subjects impact research and project outcomes.

Tim Curley is responsible for developing commercial partnerships and creating routes to revenue opportunities across PARC’s research initiatives and IP portfolio. In this role, Tim helps companies augment their own R&D initiatives by helping them map PARC IP assets and research expertise to meet the needs of their product development and commercialization efforts. Prior to PARC, Tim was founder and managing partner at PartnerAlliances (acquired by Amazon Consulting), a strategic alliance and IP consulting firm located in Menlo Park, CA. While at PartnerAlliances, Tim developed partner go-to-market strategies and execution plans for start-up and Fortune 1000 companies. Tim has pre- through post-IPO startup experience serving as VP of Business Development at Nogatech Inc. (acquired by Zoran Corporation) and VP of Business Development at MegaChips Corporation. In addition to PARC, Tim is passionate about STEM science education, he’s currently founder at ToyLabs, Inc. and Co-Founder at Scimodo | The IoT Platform for Science Education.
Tim earned a Master of Business Administration in Strategy from Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, Magna Cum Laude, from Menlo College. 4 US Patents Issued and 5 US Patents Pending. Recipient of the 2016 Good Design Award from The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design for the Volta Flyer | The World’s First Solar Powered Airplane Science Project for Kids.
