Child Abuse Reporting

The Child Protective Services (CPS) division of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) at (800) 252-5400 or the Texas Abuse Hotline Website.

Austin ISD employees must report all cases of suspected child abuse or neglect immediately. The failure to report by any person with such knowledge constitutes a Class A Misdemeanor.

Failure to report by school personnel shall be considered a good cause for termination of employment. Teachers, administrators, or other employees who make a report in good faith are immune from civil or criminal liability

It is the Child Protective Services (CPS) position that school personnel should not be investigating allegations or suspicions of abuse or neglect. This is the Department of Family and Protective Services's responsibility.

All cases of alleged Child Abuse and Neglect must be reported immediately.
