UT/AISD Principal Residency Program
The partnership between the University of Texas and Austin ISD is a grant-funded program through TEA that works to develop future campus leaders. Through a sustainable leadership development model, the district, university, and student commit to each other and to the service of our schools and students for 3 year.
Principal Residents gain full-time Assistant Principal internships with job embedded experience:
Working at title and non-title campuses
Diverse experience in an elementary and secondary school setting
Learning from two mentor principals
Collaborating with district officials from our Leadership Development team and Office of School Leadership
In partnership with TEA, Austin ISD funds:
Full time professional salary for the school year
Performance Assessment for School Leaders (PASL) and 268 certification
Professional Development (Coaching for Results)
Books and related learning materials
Leadership Mentor
Through the University of Texas, residents receive a Master's in Education through a 12-month program. Candidates complete 35 credit hours in 12 months and receive a master's degree in educational leadership and policy as well as additional certifications required by Texas. They also receive hands-on training as an administrative intern while enrolled in the program. The course schedule includes coursework at UT Austin on weekends, online, and on-site at students' internship partner campus.
