The school infirmary will assume responsibility for all students who come to it. Medical problems and the need for treatment of injuries and other personal emergencies are to be referred to the infirmary. No administration of medication is to be undertaken by a teacher; all such cases are to be directed to the nurses on duty. Students who require any special medications either after an illness or on an emergency basis for chronic medical problems must take the medication to the nurse with a doctor's prescription and specific instructions from the parents are to be on file with the school infirmary. Any student who requests permission to leave class to take medication should be referred to the school infirmary. No student should be sent to the infirmary without a pass.
Teachers should refer medical information sent by parents to the school infirmary. This includes:
The school infirmary will annually prepare a list of students and their medical problems that classroom teachers need to know about. The school infirmary will contact all personnel who need to know about a student’s restricted activity.
The school is not equipped to provide more than First Aid services and will make referrals to parents or family doctors when a student is unable to function effectively the rest of a school day. Parents will be asked to pick up students promptly if they are too ill to attend classes.
The school infirmary must be notified immediately and attend to any staff member who is injured on school grounds.
