Community members should not bring animals on campus at any time, weekends and vacations included. Animals are only allowed on campus under the following regulations:
Early Childhood
- fish are allowed in the office and in all classrooms
- the teacher is responsible for care (food and cleaning, vacation days included)
- temporary animal exhibits at principal’s discretion
Elementary School
- fish are allowed in the office and in all classrooms
- the teacher is responsible for care (food and cleaning, vacation days included)
- the science lab may have one example of a mammal and one example of a reptile
- the science lab teacher is responsible for care (food and cleaning, vacation days included)
- temporary animal exhibits at principal’s discretion
- because of health and safety issues, “Pet Days” have been suspended
Middle School
- fish are allowed in the office and in all classrooms
- the teacher is responsible for care (food and cleaning, vacation days included)
- the science lab may have one example of a mammal and one example of a reptile
- the science lab is allowed to have animals for specific lesson plans; following the lesson, the animals will be removed from campus
- the science lab teacher is responsible for care (food and cleaning, vacation days included)
- temporary animal exhibits at principal’s discretion
High School
- fish are allowed in the lab
- the biology lab is allowed to have animals for specific lesson plans; following the lesson the animals will be removed from campus
- the biology teacher is responsible for care (food and cleaning, vacation days included)
- the principal should be notified of any animal on campus
Aviary
- only birds that can be caged 100% of the time will be allowed on campus
- only as many birds are allowed as are comfortable in the existing cages
- one school employee will be paid an additional stipend for feeding and cleaning the cages on a daily basis
Disposal of animals
- all dead animals may be buried on campus under the coordination with the Material Resources Office
