2.8 Professional Staff Evaluation

Professional Staff Evaluation

Good teaching is the most important element in an educational program of excellence. Teacher evaluation provides opportunities to improve the instructional process through observation, reflection, and dialogue between administrators and teachers as well as between professional peers. The evaluation process also ensures the quality control of instruction.

First to third year teachers will be observed formally (pre-conference, observation, post-conference) during their first three years at ASFG with additional formal observations as needed. Veteran teachers will be observed formally on a three-year cycle. All teachers will participate in conferences (usually end-of-the-year) with an administrator to discuss observations, professional objectives, and reflections. Teacher evaluations consist of:

  • formal evaluation(s)
  • informal evaluation(s)
  • peer observation(s)
  • professional objectives and reflection
  • summative evaluation
