In order to educate students in a bilingual, bicultural and secular environment, the school supports study abroad programs, school to school partnerships, cultural exchanges, inter-school tournaments, and learning excursions.
ASFG will sponsor two, one day field trips per group during each school year (within city limits) grades nursery to twelfth; additional trips can be scheduled with students covering expenses upon section administrative approval (service learning excursions are often paid for by group collections or fund raising campaigns).
The lead teacher is expected to provide parents with complete information about the proposed trip, particularly with regards to the following, at least one week in advance of departure:
Faculty must consult with the section principal relative to the permission form and letter being sent to parents. The informative letter and permission form must be approved by the principal before mailing.
A list of trip participants, chaperones, and a signed parental permission slip from each participating student will be given to the section principal one day before the trip. A list of trip participants (students, teachers, chaperones) with telephone numbers, as well as departure and expected return times, will be given to the head of security on the day of departure.
Overnight field trips will have a maximum duration of five school days, weekends may be attached. Overnight trips within national boundaries (Mexico) and meeting all trip guidelines, can be planned at the discretion of the section principal.
Trips outside of national boundaries merit Board approval. A written list of proposed trips for the next school year, including all curriculum plans and guidelines, will be presented to the School Improvement Committee for their consideration at their regularly scheduled meeting in April. Their recommendation will be presented to the Board of Directors in April for consideration.
Recommended bus trip duration: (upon administrative approval)
All overnight trips will have a mandatory parent meeting scheduled by the section principal and lead teacher to provide parents complete information about the trip including:
ASFG field trips may be canceled without previous notice by order of the Director General when a field trip is judged as unsafe. This decision may be taken at any time before or even during the trip. If this decision is taken after reservations and payments have been made, every effort will be taken by the school administration to return funds. However, ASFG cannot assure that payments will be returned.
Any trips scheduled during vacation periods are not sponsored by the American School Foundation of Guadalajara, A.C.
The procedures for all student and staff trips sponsored by the school are the following:
