Faculty and staff are role models for many students. Therefore, ASFG expects proper decorum from all employees in the presence of students at school functions and in the greater Jalisco community. Faculty and staff MAY NOT use drugs or alcohol under any circumstances while on a school-sponsored trip. The use of illegal drugs or the excessive use of alcohol is discouraged at all times.
Faculty and staff attending school events, in particular those on duty, should not use tobacco products in the presence of students. Faculty and staff should not consume alcoholic beverages prior to attending or being on duty at a school event. In Mexico people have a warm and caring nature that is naturally expressed by both children and adults in a variety of ways. It is very natural for people to kiss on the cheek when saying hello or goodbye, give hugs and pats on the back when congratulations are in order, and use hugs and kisses as a means to express appreciation on a daily basis.
Many teachers have been trained to never touch a child under any circumstances. At ASFG you might feel a bit overwhelmed with so much affection from students and other community members and not know how to react. With time you will begin to feel more comfortable with these cultural differences.
As staff members who are with students all day there is a subtle, but very important, line to be drawn. We need to be affectionate but also keep a respectful demeanor with all community members, especially students. Please consider the following
All visitors to our campus are expected to report to the section office and not go directly to any classroom. Under no circumstance is a parent, personal acquaintance, etc, allowed to interrupt a class. Ask them to make an appointment with you through the office.
Requests for students during another instructor's class period should not be made except for an emergency. Special requests for students should be made through the office. Individual students or an entire class should not be held over at the expense of another instructor's time.
Under no circumstances should correspondence regarding school business be sent without prior approval. All teachers are expected to adhere to the following guidelines:
School policy does not allow faculty members or students to promote or sell products/items on school grounds for personal benefit.
Every teacher needs to have emergency lesson plans on file in the office by the end of the first week of classes. Plans should be related to the subject matter being taught and provide sufficient material to cover three days, including the appropriate number of copies for each class and detailed instructions. Once used, emergency plans must be updated or replaced.
Permanent substitutes should report to the appropriate section office and sign in. When no substitution has been assigned, the substitutes are expected to assist in the office or work with specific students or groups as deemed necessary by an administrator. Regular faculty who substitute should sign in at the office to receive credit for substitutions.
It is very important that the school knows of a teacher’s absence in advance. When a teacher knows in advance that he/she will be absent, he/she should leave a complete set of lesson plans, class lists, a seating chart, a daily schedule, duty assignments, and any special instructions for each day of absence. These items should be left in the office. Upon returning to school, teachers should complete a substitute evaluation sheet to assist in the evaluation of substitute performance.
Substitutes are assigned by the administration. Teachers should not make arrangements directly with the substitute.
After the 2nd day of an illness, a teacher is required to go for a medical examination. This will help you decide if you need to go to the IMSS for a more serious illness requiring an absence of three (3) or more days or, if by following doctor’s orders and taking your medicine, you will be up and about the next day. If a teacher does not go for a medical examination, the sick days will not be authorized.
The school has a special accord with the San Javier Hospital regarding medical consultations. The current fees are as follows:
Regular hours consultation fees: (Applicable for Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. & Sat. 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.)
In order to have access to these reduced fees at San Javier Hospital, any employee (teachers, TAs, office support staff, cleaning, maintenance, security, etc.) seeking a medical consultation must show their school ID upon entering the reception area of the hospital and again when paying. This discount does not apply to family members.
The Wednesday meetings for faculty include section faculty meetings, vertical team meetings, and school-wide meetings. Attendance is obligatory at all of these meetings and sign-in sheets will be provided. Absences due to emergencies or scheduled inter-scholastic activities must be pre-approved by the section administrator.
All faculty members are required to attend in-service days. Pay is deducted for non-attendance.
ASFG has a smoke free environment. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on campus at any time.
ASFG is an alcohol free campus. Alcoholic drinks are not permitted on school premises or at any school sponsored event where students may be present. Staff and other adults supervising student activities are not permitted to consume alcoholic drinks.
Faculty members will be given a section specific check-out form by their section administrator. This form will contain check-out procedures for sections and the personnel office.
