Analysis
The phrase “yeah no” or "yea no" is used to say no to a question or statement in a sarcastic or exaggerated way. Usually people add extras a’s to the yea for example, “yeaaaaa no”. Like you're joking with the yea and then you're being serious with the no. You use this phrase when someone says something that's a joke to you or something that the answer is obviously no and it's more light hearted instead of straight up saying no in a serious way. This phrase is mostly common in the young generation. This kind of sarcasm is good to lighten up a conversation or make it interesting/fun. Sarcasm is a way to express humour and make things not so serious or awkward. We’re communicating our thoughts in a way where the person we are talking to knows we are joking or being unserious. Joking around with people just makes things more intriguing and gets the conversation and vibe flowing.
Examples
An example could be your sibling asking you "can you do my homework for me?" and you saying "yeaaaa no im not doing that." I personally have said this to my brother when he asked me this question.
This example below is from me and my friends:
Below me is a meme and the face the girl is making could be how people react to these stateents or questions when saying "yea no".
This tik tok above is a girl showing her messy room and she adds text to the video saying " we can just go to your house" and the caption says "yeah no" obviously meaning no because her room is messy.
