boy, ain't no way, boy
a phrase used to express shock or disbelief
a phrase used to express shock or disbelief
extended definition: Used in response to when another person says or does something very unbelievable, whether it is funny, rude, dumb, mean, etc.Â
origin: The popularity of this specific phrase originated two years ago from a live video streamed by a creator named Duke Dennis. In the stream, he is reacting to a separate video by another creator. Something weird happens during the video, to which his response is "Boy, ain't no way, boy. Boy ain't no f*ckin' way, boy," followed by a few more repetitions of the phrase. From there, his reaction was clipped by others and spread across social media, and it's now a phrase used in many people's daily vocabularies.Â
Going a bit further back in time, people from all different backgrounds have been using the word "ain't." According to Thesaurus.com, the word derived from the contractions amn't (am not) and aren't (are not), both of which date back to the late 1600s and early 1700s. Wordsense.eu states that it became the most widely used form of these two contractions in the early 19th century. Â
