Dope

Dope has been a word for a surprisingly very long time and has developed many different meanings and uses. From the official Merriam Webster dictionary it most closely relates to drugs and is a term for doing drugs in general. It also can be used to describe someone you see as dumb. Urban Dictionary also agrees as a term to describe drugs, but they also have the use I use it for meaning to describe something as cool. The reason I tend to use this word so much is because of its simplicity and sharpness as it rolls off your tongue. Being one syllable with a hard "puh" sound that encapsulates a very concise but yet simple way to say something is enjoyable or impressive.

Then the biggest use referring to drugs started with opium due to its thicker paste like qualities. Then by the 1900's it became a term for more drugs like "cocaine," "marijauna," and "heroine." This was the typical use for almost 70-80 years and was the slang term for most drugs. Finally, by the late 1970's and early 1980's the hip-hop world again shifted the meaning again to describe something great or "excellent."  It then took off with this new meaning and everyone was using dope as a descriptor for something they are fond of.
