The phrase used by Cristiano Ronaldo to express excitement and to celebrate a goal
Siuuuu originates from the proffesional soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo who began the terms popularity through a goal celebration which he first did in a match against Chelsea in 2013 for his club Real Madrid. Since he first introduced the celebration it has become his signature celebration for a goal as well as the way fans address him in public. The Siuuu is a form of personal branding that is used in the same way a wrestler has a finishing move. Children and fans enjoy imitating the celebration. Football fans enjoy saying it, either in support/honoring of the player or to mock him for not playing well in a way game. It is, arguably, the most famous and most copied scoring celebration performed by a player today.(Athletic) It gives the fans a sense of familiaritry with a player and is a gesture that everyone in the stadium and at home can do along with him to share the fun. The use of slang in our society reveals our interest, values, and humour in more specifically the sports world and how different groups of fans interact with one another. They are used to form a community or sense of belonging which is what fans of Ronaldo do by saying the word to identify each other. They can tell us that are society is always evolving with ways to communicate in every aspect of daily life and the things we enjoy such as values and forms of entertainment, in this case being soccer and the players who dominate the sport.
Example 1
The main clip that has been spread, originates from Ronaldo's post-match interview with the press after winning the UEFA Champions League by saying in Spanish "Thank you to all the fans, this is for you, SIUUUU!"
Example 2
More recently the term has gone through many different variations as it translates to Yes in Spanish but has been lost in translation to popular youtube creator iSHowSpeed who has said it as "Sewwweeyyy" This has led to more fans saying the wrong pronunciations as a joke.
