The use of the word “cope” saw a sharp uptick during the 2020 presidential race when the twitter account Coping Maga (@RightWingCope) began using the term and its cousin “copium” (a combination of opium and cope to signify the unwillingness of someone to accept that they may be wrong and their addiction to the belief that they are right) to mock Republicans dealing with Donald Trump’s election loss. Its use on Twitter gradually evolved to be used as an insult implying someone is upset. When used this way it may be seen as an evolution of the term “Deal With It.”
