an indicator of common understanding between one or more individuals
This phrase is often used in an informal way to state understanding. As if to say “You understand what I’m saying.” This phrase is often used as a sentence closer when the subject matter of a sentence tends to be heavy, as if to suggest a form of solidarity.
This phrase is used among friends, and while it can be used in more negative situations, it can also be used at any time of informality. It is a simple phrase that can be inserted into any conversation without its presence meaning much, like a sort of verbal head nod/informal handshake.
