The origin of this slang has many suggestions. In the 2010s, Black Twitter was attributed to this. Another suggestion claims that it comes from Karen, who appears in the 2004 film Mean Girls and says, "Oh my God, Karen, you can't just ask someone why they're white." Another explanation derives from Dane Cook's 2005 skit "The Friend Nobody Likes." (Karen was the name of the friend.) According to the article. Karen first appeared in September 2016, when joematar, a Tumblr user, mocked a Nintendo Switch commercial in which a white lady in her early 30s brings the gaming console to a party. (Nagesh). Karen became an obnoxious middle-aged, suburban, minivan-driving white woman with a "talk to the manager" hairstyle. This is a short, angled blonde bob commonly referred to as a "mom haircut." "Speak to the boss" refers to Karen's characteristic tendency to raise complaints or requests from retail or restaurant staff to their managers.
