-An Extended Definition/Analysis: The word tuff originally meant describing something to be good/cool and came from the book Outsiders by S.E. Hinton (7ESL). Until later on, the word tuff can now also describe a situation to be bad/unfortunate(Solluminati) . As a result, the word can now be used in both ways to describe a situation as bad or good. You can usually tell which versions of tuff it is by either the context of the sentence or the way the person says it. A particular youtuber, Sollumintai, surged the popularity of tuff by using the phrase “That's tuff” (Urban Dictionary). In addition, the word surged even more in popularity because of a song where “That's tuff” was the main lyric of the song(Rich The Kid). Moreover, I think what this word say’s about our society and incoming generations is that we can quite easily manipulate the meanings of words that already have a well known definition. Right now we know the current definition of that's tuff but perhaps in the future it might mean something different. Additionally, I think what this also says about our society is that the internet has a huge influence on making us use the slang words that are on there and from there on you start hearing that word amongst your peers/ friends and ultimately you begin to use it too. I feel like if you know what “that’s tuff” means then it will probably lead me to conclude that you are also familiar with the other slang phrases too.
