“The expression no cap is slang meaning “no lie” or “for real,” often used to emphasize someone is not exaggerating about something hard to believe” (Straussman 1).
Cap can be defined as a synonym for lying. When you call cap or say someone is capping you are saying that they are exaggerating their claim or straight-up lying. In 1940 to cap meant “to surpass” so you can think of it as going over the top. Cap can be used in general conversation or in music lyrics. It is a very versatile term.
