Bingus is a hairless cat that became famous for just looking weird. The origin of bingus was a video posted by instagram user @Subaru Rocks holding and petting a funny looking hairless cat. Meme pages took the video and began reposting it with the name bingus, nobody knows who gave the name since it was reposted everywhere but it stuck. The user u/haydongers posted a image of bingus with the text “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. hi bingus…” to the reddit page r/ambien landing it on the front page skyrocketing bingus into fame. Bingus gained further traction with a famous twitch streamer Corpse Husband using the meme as an activation word in chat to trigger events.
Bingus is a good example of how the internet takes a random picture and phrase turning it into a bigger joke by heavily editing it. A Lot of the jokes or images lack any form and it's just the context of a funny looking cat named bingus using pre existing memes. The internet has always been obsessed with cats, bingus is just the current famous cat. There's no real reason to use bingus it's used mostly as a meme you save to send to friends and group chats. However bingus is often used as a name for any hairless cat, There are no longer sphinx cats they are all bingus.
