The New Calming Room at Cony

by Hailey Johnson

A new room at Cony has been created! This new room is called the Calming Room. As seen in the Ram Recap, the Calming Room is located in the health suite. To use the room, a student simply needs to ask their teacher for a pass. There is no limit to how many times a single student can use this room. The room was created to provide students with a place where they regroup and calm themselves. The Cony community used the information from the Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey to create this room. The survey showed that students at Cony are dealing with stress, anxiety, and depression. After discussing these issues, the Student Service Leadership Committee at Cony came up with the idea and introduced it to the Cony Teen Health Board. From there, the room was created! The room gives a student a place to just be themselves without distraction from external stimuli. The room encourages students to put their mental health first, which is vital to being a healthy student. So if you are dealing with a panic attack, stress, or just need to be, the calming room is the place to go!
