FIRE TRUCKS CALLED TO CONY HIGH SCHOOL AFTER BOILER MALFUNCTIONS

On Friday, students and faculty at Cony Middle and High School evacuated the building in response to fire alarms. Principal Silsby said the cause of the alarm was a boiler malfunction.

Staff and students filed through the hallways to the nearest exits with expressions of confusion on peoples faces. At the time, it was unclear whether the fire alarm was part of a planned drill or a fire.

“All I was wondering was where the fire was in the school,” said Anthony Noftall, a junior.

Two fire engines with the Augusta Fire Department arrived at the school within a few minutes. Tensions lowered when the firemen showed little urgency.

Chief Scott Dunbar said it was a false alarm and there was no fire.

“Alarms can go off for a lot, lot of reasons,” Dunbar said.

Students and staff remained outside for approximately 15 minutes. Excited to get out of 30 degree weather, students quickly filed back inside the school and went back to their classes.

On Monday, Silsby told The Rameses the cause of the alarm was a boiler malfunction.
