On Nov. 15, the Cony football and volleyball teams squared off in a match to raise money for Shannon Morgan, Mr. Morgan’s (art teacher) wife, who recently was diagnosed with leukemia after already beating breast cancer.

The match is an ongoing Cony tradition, but varsity volleyball player Ashley Tobias saw it as an opportunity to help the Morgan family by making it a charity match.

Tobias presented the idea to coaches and teachers Slein and Morin, who agreed to volunteer and referee the match.

The winner of the match would be the team who won the majority of three rounds.

The football team took a quick lead in the first few minutes, and would take the win in round one. But volleyball dominated in the second round of the night. — tying the teams going into round three..

In a tie-breaking final round, the football team came back and won.

A second match was also held with students who signed up beforehand to take a swing against the volleyball team. Volleyball would win two-of-three rounds, and take the win.

By the end of the night, more than $500 was collectively raised by the students, staff, and parents who came out to support.

Ms. Mornin says that it was, “A true win for Mr. Morgan”
