A crowd of happy faces filled Alumni Field on September 27, as the Cony football team came out victorious with almost a 20 point lead by the end of its homecoming game.

The Rams played the Lewiston Blue Devils and seemed determined to win from the start. Within the first three minutes, Cony junior Riley Geyer scored the first touchdown and later a second touchdown with one minute to go in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Blue Devils surged back and caught up with two touchdowns. The Cony Rams held out and scored two more touchdowns, one in the first few minutes and another with less than a minute to go.

By halftime, the score was 29 to 14 with Cony in the lead.

“It’s pretty great that we’re winning. There’s much more of an advantage because we’re home and we go really hard,” said Justin Pare, Simon McCormick and Dakota Dearborn.

During halftime, seniors entertained the crowd as people visited the concessions stand in search of fried dough, french fries and hot chocolate. Donations were also collected for the town of Farmington following an explosion at the LEAP offices on September 16 that killed Capt. Michael Bell and injured seven people.

As the Rams and Devils returned to the field for the second half, the crowd tapped into the excitement of homecoming week.

Two Rams interceptions by Riley Gyer and James Presti in the third quarter set the stage for the rest of the game, driving (Number 5) to score a Pick-6 interception and then a touchdown.

The game ended with a final score of 44 to 28.

“It’s been a great game and halftime performances were great,” said members of the Augusta Fire Department.
