Brianna Madore, a sophomore at Cony High School, was announced as the new Youth Advocate representing Maine in D.A.R.E America on April 1.

Madore took a D.A.R.E — Drug Abuse Resistance Education — course in 6th grade and was disappointed to find out that there were no other opportunities for her to stay involved with the D.A.R.E program, she said. This changed earlier this year when she was told that she was nominated to represent Maine on the organization's Youth Advocacy Board.

“I immediately thought how great it would be to be involved in the program again, and make D.A.R.E better known to my peers,” Madore said.

The mission of D.A.R.E is to teach school age children and teens how to resist peer pressure and not use drugs.

As a member of the board, she is looking forward to helping her community in “a very necessary way,” and sharing D.A.R.E’s message of living healthy and safe lives while abstaining from drugs, Madore said.

Madore is also a member of the Cony Keyclub and German Honors Society. Her peers describe her as an upstanding and hardworking student.
