'SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME': AN EMOTIONAL CONCLUSION TO A TRILOGY

By: Ted Campbell 1/22/2022

After 20 years of live action Spider-Man films that span three different continuities, it all comes to a close with "Spider-Man: No Way Home." The film released on Dec. 17, 2021 concludes the latest storyline starring Tom Holland, while also setting up future Spider-Man films starring him. I found No Way Home to be the best live action Spider-Man film ever released.

One of the major attractions of No Way Home is the return of villains from previous continuities, who are played by their original actors. Some of the most notable are Willem Dafoe as the Green Goblin, Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus and Jamie Foxx as Electro. All three gave excellent performances, building off of their previous iterations and improving them greatly.

Yet it is the emotional depth of No Way Home which is unmatched by prior films. (Light spoiler alert!) Peter Parker deals with the consequences of being outed as Spider-Man and how it affects the people closest to him. The film then deals with the consequences of him trying to make the world forget he’s Spider-Man, which leads to multiversal madness. Without delving too far into spoilers, No Way Home will tug at your heartstrings.
