Scoville Last in Year in Chizzle Wizzle and His Interlocutor Legacy

by Rekha Goonesekere

Cony teacher Stephen Scoville will perform his last year as Showcase Interlocutor in this year’s Chizzle Wizzle “When Pigs Fly”.

“Getting to work with Mr. Scoville throughout my years in Chizzle Wizzle has been an absolute pleasure,” says Senior Sequora Kelley. Kelley performed in the show with Scoville as an End throughout her high school career. “I am so thankful to have had this opportunity to be able to create something special alongside Scoville. He will surely be missed in the show, as well as within the Cony community all together!” Kelley says. She describes Scoville as a greatly talented interlocutor who brings a fun energy to the stage.

Showcase Interlocutor is a role in Chizzle Wizzle’s chorus portion of the show. It is played by a teacher who introduces the Ends and Alternates and segways each song into the next.

“Performing is always huge fun, but getting to interact with [students] is the best part. It’s so much fun doing theater with folks. Getting to work with energetic and talented kids is just phenomenal,” Scoville says.

Scoville played interlocutor for Chizzle Wizzle for five years, starting with Chizzle Wizzle's “Just Add Water” in 2018.  Scoville recalls how he got the role: “I can clearly remember I was walking down the hall and Ms. Morin came up and said ‘Scoville I have a question for you’ and I could feel that was the question that was coming and I was so excited to do it.” He then was given his role, a script, and even a song to sing. Scoville sang “The Water Cycle” and played himself as a science teacher in a seaside school.

Scoville grew his involvement in the show throughout the years. He co-wrote the script for the 2020 Chizzle Wizzle “In Your Dreams” and wrote the script for other shows including 2019’s  Chizzle Wizzle “Out of This World” and this year’s Chizzle Wizzle “When Pigs Fly”.

“I would encourage all teachers to consider being interlocutors because it’s an awesome experience,” Scoville says.
