COLIN LACROSSE WIN’S 2022 CHIZZLE WIZZLE PIN COMPETITION

On Jan. 6, the Chizzle Wizzle executive board announced Colin Lacrosse as the winner of the 2022 Chizzle Wizzle pin design contest. For the last 131 years, every Chizzle Wizzle show has had a pin designed to correlate with that year’s theme.

To have their pin chosen, students had to create an image that included elements of this year's theme: Let the Games Begin. Students also (as they have since the inception of the competition) had to include in their design the traditional symbols of the show: a hat, banjo, microphone and tambourine.

Lacrosse, a senior, submitted his design with references to casino games. In the center of the pin stands a stack of poker chips, a spread of cards (one of which has a banjo on it) and a pair of dice with a tambourine on one and a hat and microphone on the other. The outside rim of the pin is alternating black and red.

Lacrosse's design won this year's contest because it was unique and could be enlarged, said Ms. Morin, the head of the show.

“The key to the design is something that will look great in XL on the wall outside the auditorium, medium size on the front of the program, and the traditional pin size. Sometimes really great artists get too detailed on their pin and it doesn't translate well... less is often more,” Ms. Morin said.

Lacrosse said he has been interested in drawing since elementary school, and that his main inspiration for the design was casino games.

“It just seemed to fit so well with the theme, I couldn’t pass up the idea,” Lacrosse said.

“The win definitely feels good, I usually don’t win contests so it’s definitely nice winning one like this in my last year of school,” he added.
