Printing project: select your own favourite song lyrics to use for your printing project. the selected song must be very visual. Print out the lyrics.
Song lyrics- highlight words or sections from the song and then collect images that visualise the words from your song lyrics (at least 10 )
Drawings (x10) draw from your research images- the drawings must be shaded or coloured to a high standard, so make sure you put in enough time into your drawings.
Example:
Possible project: Printing: Design workshop based on the song from Ed Sheeran ‘Lego house’.
Look at lyrics from the song 'Lego house' and start to analyse the words. Underline the words which you can link to visual pictures.
Make a list of the chosen words and start to brainstorm them individually; linking them to images you can later collect to help you with your design compositions.
Use the inter-net to collect images from the words used in your list.
Start to produce design compositions with the collected images.
Overlap
Repeat and change size
Tell a story
Put shapes on top of your design (circles, diagonal lines, cross, etc…)
Select sections from your drawings
Select quarter sections of 4 different drawings and put them together to produce a new shape/ design
use the outline of a drawing and then use other drawings/ sections to be placed inside.
mirror image
combine the different instructions above to produce different designs
You can come up with other designs. The more you investigate or develop ideas, the better the final outcome will be. Produce 6 ideas.
Select one of your design compositions and draw to scale on an A3 paper
Ink up plastic sheet with very little ink which you need to spreed thoroughly all over the plastic sheet
Get newsprint paper to blot over the extended ink on the plastic sheet to get the excess ink of the sheet. ( do not throw away the newsprint bloting paper as you will use it later on for a print).
Put a sheet of paper ontop of the inked plastic shett and then place your drawn design composition ontop of the paper.
Start to go over the drawn design compostion as if you are tracing the drawing. Remember the more presure you apply to the drawing, the darker your line will be, as it picks up more ink. For dark areas shade sections.
Once you have your print, get a negative print by putting a news print paper ontop of the printing plate and applying presure with a roller.
Use this negative print to add oil pastel and mixed media.
Lino Print
Select another of your design ideas to transfer to the blue lino. In your sketchbook plan your lino print using white, black and one colour. Look at the attached examples to see how a student planned the lino print. Use felt tips or pencils. Make sure you consider the background and the use of thin and thick black lines.

Student responses to Andy Warhol
Use your own prints/photos to digitally develop the following 3 responses.
1. look at the Zebra print and select your own print to develop a response. focus on line and colour and make sure the background colour is flat.
2. Look at the repetitive prints like the soup cans or the John Lennon print and chose one of your prints to develop a response. Focus on the use of flat colour and contrast within the images.
3. look at the Mick Jagger collage print and select one of your mixed media or collage prints to develop a response. Focus on the use of thick and thin black lines.

Chose one of your ideas to produce a polly print using 2 colours
Draw your idea to scale (the size of the foam plate)
Transfer the design idea to the foam using a lightbox or a window, ( only draw the line drawing without the shading) and use to print the first light colour. Repeat 4 times to create an Andy Warhol inspired print.
Clean the foam after you have printed the first light colour line drawing print, dry the foam and start to shade straight onto the foam.
Apply the 2nd darker or contrasting colour to the foam plate and print ontop of the light colured initial print.
Developing your prints into a CD cover
Tasks in Keynote:
1. Photograph and crop all of your prints
2. Look at the work of artist Andy Warhol (repetition designs). Select 1 of your prints and repeat it 4 times or more like Andy Warhol does in his designs
3. Look at the work of artist William Morris (repetition-symmetry-flip image). Select 1 of your prints and repeat it 4 times like William Morris does in his designs to create a new bigger design.
4. Select areas from your different prints and put them together to create a new design. You can draw on top and you can also layer images. Saturate the colours or work with a black and white image and a colour image on top, using the opacity tool.
5. Experiment with what you have learned and produce your own designs. Have fun!!!
Use the images from your prints based on your favorite song.
Produce a front and back cover, incorporating fonts and record label logos. Use link to analyse CD covers: https://www.slideshare.net/meganalghailani/front-and-back-album-cover-analysis and https://www.slideshare.net/sheidz/cover-analysis-27364207?next_slideshow=1 .
Analyse your 4 chosen CD covers back and front (layout)
optional extra work: Produce the inside pages to add the songs on top of your prints
select your favorite CD cover and copy it using the same colours, text and layout (back and front) using your prints. Consider the layering of images, text/font size, and design composition
Use your images to develop your own CD cover (back and front). You can use more that one of your prints to develop the cover and you can overlap images considering the transparency to create interesting areas in your designs). Text is important!! You can use the highlighted areas of the lyrics as titles for songs.
