Homework task:
Ask your grandparents, neighbours, friends the following question: What do you remember about the Gibraltar 1967 Referendum?
Write a few sentences on their personal account in your sketchbook.
Lesson 1:
Look at some of the documentaries on the 1967 Referendum and then do some research on the internet. Look at articles and images and make a mind map based on the topic. Consider cause, and consequences of the referendum as well as objects that you can name from your images research.
Homework: collect as many images related to the referendum as possible and save them on your phone. If you can print some of the images altogether on an A4 size page.
Lesson 2 and 3:
Using your images and Gibraltar government book on the Gibraltar 1967 Referendum start to do some drawings to later use for the development of your ideas.
· Read pages 6 and 7 for some Background information.
· Read Page 14 for the choice written on the ballot.
· Look at the image on page 25 for the result.
· Read page 32 paragraph 3 on the right hand side to understand the consequences of the referendum vote
Research the Treaty of Utrecht: write down its relationship to Gibraltar and Spain and draw images related to this. You can draw the Map or elements from the Treaty itself.

Research the United Nations and what they stand for (write it down in your sketchbook). Look at the UN 1960 resolution on the decolonisation of Gibraltar and write it down

Lesson 6, 7 and 8: Use of Photoshop posterising images and developing poster.
Create your own 1967 Gibraltar referendum poster
Use all the images that you have researched and drawn to develop the poster- Use images of the politicians, people in the streets, protest signs and text, flags, UN and Treaty of Utrecht. Text can be selected from the Red Referendum books in the Art room
Possible activity:
Photoshop Tutorial: How to Make Obama's HOPE POSTER using your own Face
Option 1:
· Take a photo (selfie) of yourself to develop in Photoshop
· Analyse Fairy’s use of geometric shapes to develop your font.
· Think about the use of your researched images and the use of contrasting colours in posters
· More importantly think about the message you want to put through in your poster.
· Start to develop your ideas for a final compositional response in your sketchbook. Make annotations of your work as it progresses.
Option 2:
Produce the poster using Photoshop. Remember to keep it simple and relate the posterised images and use of colour to the chosen artists Shepherd Fairey.
