Westside Art Department KS3 course structure
Year 7: Elements of Art
This year we will pilot a new way of working where teachers will produce Schemes of Work related to the Visual Elements. These elements are the building blocks of art that help the artist communicate. These elements help us in understanding the piece of art more clearly. The projects will be approximately 6 weeks long. The students will also have a drawing skills task during the first lesson of each Term and two lessons focused on an artist task. Both tasks will be graded and inputted in the Go4schools markbook to measure Skill progress and Artist knowledge.
At the end of each project based on an art Element, teachers will share the Scheme of Work that they have produced via a Google drive folder. Teachers will review and discuss the projects together, to see what has and has not worked for them, share resources and best practice.
At the end of each Visual Element (5 week project) which has been covered a grade must be inputted in the Go4schools markbook to measure Creative progress. The students will also have a drawing skills task during the first lesson of each Term and a two week artist task.
This will form the basis for the New Year 7 scheme of work.

The Principles of Art are the means an artist uses to organize the elements within a work of Art. Students will build upon the work learned in Year 7 on the Visual Elements of Art and develop the knowledge gained through the teaching of the Principles of Art.
Teachers will deliver 1 creative project a term (three projects during the year) which will cover all the Principles of Art by the end of Year 8. The projects will be approximately 6 weeks long. The students will also have a drawing skills task during the first lesson of each Term and a two week artist task. A grade must be inputted in the Go4schools markbook.

At the end of each term teachers will share the Schemes of Work via a Google drive folder. Teachers will review or discuss the projects together, to see what has and has not worked for them and share resources and best practice. All the Elements and Principles of Art will be used to develop the projects.
The students will also have a drawing skills task during the first lesson of each Term and a two week artist task.
