Task Variation: students are allowed to research their favourite animal to incorporate in their Celtic design. Therefore this gives them the freedom to be able to draw an animal that meets their ability.
Student Choice: by choosing the animal they are incorporating in their design it is giving them student choice to develop their own designs.
Equitable access: this is accessible for all as they will all have the same resources provided, such as sketchbooks , pencils and iPads for research and development of work.
The main Objectives are to get students to:
Brainstorm and research a topic( topic, artists, designers and different cultures).
Work on the development of ideas and be able to review and refine an idea leading to a final response.
Learn to annotate ideas, to develop a worksheet and to document work.
Be able to reflect on the work done through a final evaluation of the project.
'Abstract ornamentation and decoration are significant features of Celtic Art. These have been a rich source of inspiration for artists, craftspeople and designers. Research appropriate examples and develop your own response to this theme.
Look at the video on Celtic Knots and draw one
Task2b: look at the video and copy the fish entrail design and shade it.
Task 3: look at the 3 videos before you start to work. Draw a break line Celtic design
Task 4: View video and draw a Celtic cross
Students examples.

List and drawings of animals, sea creatures and insects.
Develop 2 design ideas using your animal drawings and Celtic design drawings. You can use sections from the drawings of your research and simplify them. Divide your page into 2 sections to draw the 2 designs.
Colour in your design idea using 2 colours, or if you have not got coloured pencils use black and white.
Development of ideas. 1.Shape of bird with Celtic designs inside. 2. Shape owl with Celtic designs on background
Select I design and transfer to the Polly foam printing plate. the teacher will explain the process in class:
Part 1: line drawing transferred to the foam and printed in a light colour. Wash foam after printing.
Part 2: Once the foam is washed, start to cross hatch shading in different areas of your drawing on the foam. The more cross hatch shading, the bigger the contrast and better the design. Use a darker colour and ink the foam printing plate. Place over the initial light coloured print.
Produce an evaluation of the project and consider the following:
Process
What you liked about the project
What you would improve or have done better
Extended task: watch video
produce a group collage of images on A1 sheet
students to print their design one beside the other to develop a class collage
Selected animal
Design development: stage one, select an animal
Stage two: select sections from Celtic designs for background design
Stage Three: Initial design/ negative design: outline of dolphin and Celtic design in background.
Stage Four: using a grid to transfer the design to the foam printing plate. (use soft felt tips).
Stage five: Use initial outline design for first colour print (must be a light colour).
Examples of using grid to transfer design.
Other design examples: design one: Negative design- outline of chosen animal and Celtic design in background
Design two:
