This exercise combines sculptural 3D form with linear observational drawings of angular planes.
Materials needed:
You need 2 two sheets of white paper or any other paper and a pencil or pens.
Instructions: Task 1
Follow the instructions for folding the origami butterfly from the video above and produce 2 butterflies.
Instructions: Task 2
Produce some drawings of the Butterflies from a variety of angles, giving attention to line, shape, form and shadows.
You can add some direct light using the torch in your Mobile phone to create more dramatic light and shadows.
Instructions: Task 3
Produce a repeat pattern using the shapes of the butterflies.

Task 1:
· Experiment with different ways of cutting, shaping and folding toilet rolls to create many interesting patterns!
The 2 videos bellow are examples of how you can develop your creative decorations. If you do not have tape or glue just place the pieces on a table and once you have finished the decoration, you can take a photo with your mobile. You can re-use the pieces to assemble other designs which you can also photograph/ document. There is no need to paint the decoration.

Research the artist Alberto Giacometti and try to answer the following questions:

2.What materials does he use?
3.What makes his figures interesting/different?
4.Anything you like about his work? Why?
6.Choose ONE of his sculptures and make a pencil drawing of that sculpture.

Task 2: Photography
Take as many photos as you can of yourself or someone else in different poses. The poses can be any way you want, but try to make them interesting. You can be sitting, standing, dancing etc... any pose you like.
Task 3: drawing
1.From your photos, choose 3 poses which you find most interesting.
2.You are going to draw those 3 poses in the style of Alberto Giacometti
Task 4: Create a Giacometti foil paper sculpture
From your 3 sketches choose one that you like. Using foil you will make your own Giacometti sculpture as seen in the image below. You can also use the YouTube link video below to learn how to twist the foil to create your figures. By making the feet thicker, it will act as a base to keep your figures standing.

Historically artists used Self-portraits as a kind of business card, attesting to their ability to capture a likeness and giving a sense of their capabilities.
