Flying Scooter was one of the first rides added to Waldameer following the easing of World War II restrictions, alongside Skyview Ferris Wheel, Whip, and Tumble Bug. It opened in 1944, and operated until 1976. It was replaced by Spider the following year. Unlike most rides of its kind, it did not go by a plural name, keeping the word "Scooter" singular in all ride signage.
The ride consisted of several two-person ride vehicles, each of which was suspended by a cable and connected to a large ride body which spun in a circle. Riders could control the motion of their vehicle with a rudder.
