Comet opened at Waldameer as the first roller coaster to operate at the park since the closure of Ravine Flyer in 1938. For many decades it stood as the only roller coaster at the park, though today it is one of five. It was given the ACE Coaster Classic designation for retaining its classic standards of operation. It is currently the 33rd oldest operating roller coaster in the world. It began planning in 1946, and opened in 1951.
It operated with hand brakes until the end of the 2011 season. It was given magnetic brakes for the 2012 season. Comet has two trains, one of which is green and one of which is orange. Each train has four cars, and each car has two rows which seat two passengers.
Comet's entrance is located across from the southern end of the arcade, next to the Merry-Go-Round.
