Week of June 15th:

Happy Summer! Play often, have fun making music, keep your skills strong for the fall! Check here throughout the summer for more "fun" tunes. This week I have added "Hedwig's Theme" from "Harry Potter" for you to enjoy throughout the rest of June! Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to find it. If you didn't get to any of the other fun tunes yet, be sure to try those too! They are all still posted below for you.

Congrats on a great first year! I can't wait to teach you again in the fall!

Week of June 8th:

This week is our last official assignment of the school year, yay! WE did it!!! Please use "Beginning Band Practice Sheet #28" as your guide. All brass and woodwind students will take the Unit 3 Assessment. This includes a submission of Song #108 and Scale #4 on the scales sheet. On Wednesday we will celebrate concert day by viewing all of the submissions for the "Concert Day Project", be sure to check the Beginning Band main page for all the great submissions! We will have a Zoom wrap-up session on Thursday, June 11th at 2pm, please join in to chat about the concert presentation, summer practicing and say hello to your bandmates before summer! This week you can also participate in the "Gear up for summer" photo challenge and try out some new fun music- "Spongebob Squarepants" & "Stranger Things"! Have a fun week and finish strong!

Week of June 1st:

Your assignment this week is the “Beginning Band Concert Day Celebration Project" as explained on "Beginning Band Practice Sheet #27". You have 3 options for this assignment- a video recording of you playing one of the band songs, a concert introduction of one of the band songs or a video of you giving a concert for your family. Submissions will be shared on concert day! Choose the one you are most comfortable with, or choose to do all 3, but please do at least one so you can be part of the concert day celebration project on June 10th.

You can also participate in the "School Spirit/Rock the Vote" practice photo challenge this week. Show your school spirit and support of our music programs by getting decked out in the your Victor Blue & Golds, make a sign encouraging everyone to vote or go practice by a voting sign in your neighborhood somewhere! Ask your parents to take you out to play where our community members can see you, in a socially distant/safe way, and share your music, encouraging all to "Rock the Vote"!!

This week is "practice in a costume or a funny location" photo challenge week. Get dressed up in a costume or find a cool/funny/unique place to practice your instrument. Have someone take a picture and send it to me via email to share the fun! We are working on "Clarinet Practice Sheet #26" and songs #108-109A in the book. You will continue to work on your new note, the E-flat, from last week. Record and submit them on EEI for feedback. Once you send your duet part, I will send you back a recording of me playing the other part for you to play along with! This will be our stopping point in the book for this year, nice work! Be sure to freshen up your band music, try out some of the fun tunes I have posted and have fun making music!

This week we will work #105-107 and put to work your final new note for the year- the E-flat (D + the side key), and it's not even new, I already taught it to you, so this should be easy-peasy :-) Please practice using "Clarinet Practice Sheet #25" as your guide. You will also participate in the "practice in a costume" challenge and begin working on "Tetris & Jeopardy Theme Songs". Be sure to get dressed up and have someone snap a picture of you practicing in a costume!

This week all Beginning Band students who take lessons with Ms. Moore will be working on "Beginning Band Practice Sheet #24" and the Victor Community music project. This week is also a great week to do some catch-up work if you are a little behind in your book work. I hope you can join me for a Beginning Band Chat Zoom meeting on Wednesday at 2pm or Friday at 2pm this week, whichever fits your schedule best. Check your parents' email for information. I hope to see your smiling faces!

Week of May 4th:

*Scroll to the bottom of the page for your practice sheets, extra songs and video lessons. All materials are listed by week from March 16th to today.

This week you should be practicing using "Clarinet Practice Sheet #23". On this sheet you will be reviewing all 5 of the scales we have introduced this year, you will work on songs #102 and 103 in your book and work on the video assignment outlined below. In #102, you will be working in a new key signature, you know this as the F Major Scale key, it really isn't new. Be sure to only play the B's flat, the E's and A's are going to be natural! In #103, you should work on the A part of the duet, submit it in EEI and I will send you back a recording of me playing the B line so you ca do a duet with me!

In addition, I have posted a "Video Assignment for All Intermediate Musicians" that all of our musicians are encouraged to participate in. The music department is creating a few videos to share with our community to show how awesome the Victor Music Programs are and also to help with our 3rd Grade Recruitment, as things are going to have to be done a little differently this year. We need your help! Read the project details below and get in on the fun in a way you feel most comfortable. There are several ways you can join in. This will be part of your assignment for the next 2 weeks, so get your creative minds going and please join in on the fun!

Week of April 27th:

This week you should be practicing using "Clarinet Practice Sheet #22" as your guide to work on songs #99-101 in your book. You will also continue to work on your newest scale, D Major, using slurs and you will learn more about phrasing, or making musical sentences with 2-4 measures, as we were learning about in band. You should also continue to have fun playing any of the 'fun' tunes I have posted for you and be sure to send me some recordings of your work through EEI or an email to tell me how you are doing and what you have been doing on your flute. Be sure to watch the video I posted to help with your book!

Week of April 20th:

This week you should practice using "Clarinet Practice Sheet #21" as your guide. You will begin learning a new scale, D Major, and you will focus on using slurs in your lesson book as you practice #95-98. I have also uploaded a new 'fun tune'- "Beauty and the Beast". This one is great for practicing slurs! Please watch the video posted below to give you some reminders and pointers about slurs. I also posted a picture of the fingering for the C# you will need to play as you work through the notes of the D Major scale on your practice sheet.

Week of April 13th:

This week you should practice using "Clarinet Practice Sheet #20" and a new fun piece "Variations on Long, Long Ago".. If you are not able to use the EEI website to submit recordings of your work, be sure to keep a good record of your practicing on your practice sheet to turn in when lessons start up again. Do what you can and have fun playing!

Your practicing should look like your practice sheet- follow each step carefully and don't skip any. When you are done working for the day, perform something you are proud of for your family and record it for me!

Book: This week you should work on #92-94 and anything you have not completed up to that point. These songs will all work on using the F# note. You have already learned how to play an F#, we use it in the G scale. Be sure to use the "stay in effect rule" as you practice #93 and 94, just like you do when they put flats in, it stays in effect for the rest of the measure. Watch the short video I attached at the bottom to learn about the sharp sign!

Also, if you did not yet finish #80-84, work on those and be sure to play all B's flat in those songs. Then work on #90 & 91, watch your 8th notes and keep a steady beat.

*Assessment: If you have not yet played the Unit 2 Assessment for me, please submit it this week, if you can. Choose from song #69, 74 or 76, record it in the music studio on EEI. Also submit a recording of yourself playing the F scale.

Fun tunes: "Over the Rainbow" and "Theme and Variations on Mary Had a Little Lamb" and "Variations on Long, Long Ago" work on these as you choose, for extra fun and a challenge.

Have fun playing your instrument! Make up your own song, play for your family, teach yourself a new song, but be sure you play often!
