Welcome 5th Grade Flutes!

Week of June 15th:

Happy Summer! Play often, have fun making music, keep your skills strong for the fall! Check here throughout the summer for more "fun" tunes. This week I have added "Jurassic Park" for you to enjoy throughout the rest of June! Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to find it. If you didn't get to any of the other fun tunes yet, be sure to try those too! They are all still posted below for you.

Congrats on a great first year! I can't wait to teach you again in the fall!

Week of June 8th:

This week is our last official assignment of the school year, yay! WE did it!!! Please use "5th Grade Woodwinds Week of June 8th" practice sheet as your guide. All brass and woodwind students will take the Unit 3 Assessment. This includes a submission of a specific song and scale, as listed on the sheet. On Wednesday we will celebrate concert day by viewing all of the submissions for the "Concert Day Project", be sure to check the Beginning Band main page for all the great submissions! We will have a Zoom wrap-up session on Friday, June 12th at 1pm, please join in to chat about the concert presentation, summer practicing and say hello to your bandmates before summer! This week you can also participate in the "Gear up for summer" photo challenge and try out some new fun music- "Spongebob Squarepants" & "Stranger Things"! Have a fun week and finish strong!

Week of June 1st:

Your assignment this week is the “5th Grade Band Concert Day Celebration Project" as explained on "5th Grade Band Practice Sheet" posted below. You have 3 options for this assignment- a video recording of you playing one or all of the band songs to my conducting track, a concert introduction of one of the band songs or a video of you giving a concert for your family. Submissions will be shared on concert day! Choose the one you are most comfortable with, or choose to do all 3, but please do at least one so you can be part of the concert day celebration project on June 10th.

You can also participate in the "School Spirit/Rock the Vote" practice photo challenge this week. Show your school spirit and support of our music programs by getting decked out in the your Victor Blue & Golds, make a sign encouraging everyone to vote or go practice by a voting sign in your neighborhood somewhere! Ask your parents to take you out to play where our community members can see you, in a socially distant/safe way, and share your music, encouraging all to "Rock the Vote"!!

Week of May 25th:

This week is "practice in a costume or a funny location" photo challenge week. Get dressed up in a costume or find a cool/funny/unique place to practice your instrument. Have someone take a picture and send it to me via email to share the fun! Songs for each group are listed below. Practice, record and submit them on EEI for feedback. This will be our stopping point in the book for this year, nice work! Be sure to freshen up your band music, try out some of the fun tunes I have posted and have fun making music!

Paige, Giana & Makayla- work on #95-98 to work using slurs. Watch the video I posted below to help you understand how to slur. Try "Hedwig's Theme", and be sure to practice in a costume or funny location, take a picture and send it to me to share the fun.

Devon- #108-109 , try "Hedwig's Theme", refresh your band music and be sure to practice in a costume or funny locations, take a picture and send it to me to share the fun.

Week of May 18th:

This week you will participate in the "practice in a costume" challenge, many of you will work on your final new book assignment for this year and begin working on "Hedwig's Theme". Be sure to get dressed up and have someone snap a picture of you practicing in a costume!

Group X Flutes- Tejas & Helena - work on #99-101 and work on using breath marks to create phrases, or musical sentences. Start working on "Hedwig's Theme", practice in a costume and take a picture.

Paige, Giana & Makayla- work on #92-94 to work using the natural sign. Watch the video I posted below to help you understand. Try "Hedwig's Theme", practice in a costume and take a picture.

Devon- #105-107 wrap-up and try "Hedwig's Theme", practice in a costume and take a picture.

Group Y & Z Flutes- work on Book 2 #29-31, start working on "Hedwig's Theme", practice in a costume and take a picture.

Week of May 11th:

This week all 5th Grade Woodwind students who take lessons with Ms. Moore will be working on "5th Grade Woodwinds Practice Sheet" and the Victor Community music project. This week is also a great week to do some catch-up work if you are a little behind in your book work. I hope you can join me for a 5th Grade Band Chat Zoom meeting on Wednesday at 1pm or Friday at 1pm this week, whichever fits your schedule best. Check your parents' email for information. I hope to see your smiling faces!

Week of May 4th:

This week I also posted some videos of me playing your 'fun' tunes so you can have a reference point, get some pointers, and can play along with me if you want to.

All groups should work on the "Video Assignment for All Intermediate Musicians" that all of our musicians are encouraged to participate in. The music department is creating a few videos to share with our community to show how awesome the Victor Music Programs are and also to help with our 3rd Grade Recruitment, as things are going to have to be done a little differently this year. We need your help! Read the project details below and get in on the fun in a way you feel most comfortable. There are several ways you can join in. This will be part of your assignment for the next 2 weeks, so get your creative minds going and please join in on the fun!

Group X Flutes- Tejas & Helena - work on #95-98 and work on using slurs. I also attached a video on slurs to give you some reminders and tips, and posted "Long, Long Ago Theme & Variations" for you to have some fun with.

Paige, Giana & Makayla- work on #84, 90, 91 to work theme and variations and D. C. al Fine. I also posted an extra tune for fun- "Theme and Variations on Mary Had a Little Lamb".

Devon- #101-105 wrap-up and "Over the Rainbow"

Group Y & Z Flutes- work on Book 2 #26-28, Continue working on "Tomorrow"

Week of April 27th:

All groups should work on the "Video Assignment for All Intermediate Musicians" that all of our musicians are encouraged to participate in. The music department is creating a few videos to share with our community to show how awesome the Victor Music Programs are and also to help with our 3rd Grade Recruitment, as things are going to have to be done a little differently this year. We need your help! Read the project details below and get in on the fun in a way you feel most comfortable. There are several ways you can join in. This will be part of your assignment for the next 3 weeks, so take your time, be creative and please join in on the fun!

Group X Flutes- Tejas & Helena - work on #92-94 and learn to use E-natural. You should also continue learning "Variations on Mary Had A Little Lamb" attached below.

Paige, Giana & Makayla- work on #80-83 to work more on using the key signature of the E-flat Scale with 3 flats. Have fun with "Over the Rainbow"

Devon- continue working on #100-103 and "Over the Rainbow"

Group Y & Z Flutes- work on Book 2 #19, 24, 25 to use staccato and tenuto. Continue working on "Tomorrow"

Week of April 20th:

Group X Flutes- Tejas & Helena - work on #84, 90 & 91 for Theme & Variations and D.C al Fine. You should also try "Variations on Mary Had A Little Lamb" attached below.

Paige, Giana & Makayla- work on #76-79 to work on the key signature of the E-flat Scale with 3 flats and 1st & 2nd endings.

Devon- work on #102-103 and "Over the Rainbow"

Group Y & Z Flutes- work on Book 2 #15-18 to begin working on staccato and tenuto. Watch the video attached for details and begin working on "Tomorrow"

Week of April 13th:

Group X Flutes- Tejas & Helena - work on #80-83, be sure to use the A-flats

Paige, Giana & Makayla- work on #73-75 to learn A-flats

Devon- work on #100-101

Group Y & Z Flutes- work on Book 2 #11-14 to finish up the review section

Have fun playing your instrument! Make up your own song, play for your family, teach yourself a new song, but be sure you play often!
