Welcome 5th Grade Percussionists!

June 8th

• • This week is our last official assignment of the school year, yay! WE did it!!! :D We'll just be working through some fun music, so take a look below for some new tunes!

  • This week you can participate in the "Gear up for summer" photo challenge Get dressed up in your best summer outfit practice your instrument! Have someone take a picture and send it to me via email to share the fun! Songs for each group are listed below. Practice, record and submit them on EEI for feedback.

  • We will have a Zoom wrap-up session on Friday, June 12th at 1pm, please join in to chat about the concert presentation, summer practicing and say hello to your bandmates before summer!

• ALL GROUPS

  • Fun Music for Bells

  • For Snare Drum

    • Using different parts of your practice pad, what type of drum part can you make up that could go with the fun bell music?!

    • You can use:

      • The middle of the drum pad

      • The edge of the drum pad

      • The plastic rim of the practice pad

      • Even the metal pole used to support the practice pad!

      • Or any other percussion instruments you might have at home :D

How should my practice routine look?

Warm-up:

• Mallets

  • Scales: B-flat, E-flat, F, A-flat and C should be practiced daily. Be sure to pay careful attention to which notes have the flat markings and which ones do not, so you practice them correctly.

• Snare

  • Rudiments: Found at the TOP OF THE PAGE in your book

    • Single Stroke Roll (RLRLRLRL...)

    • Long Roll (RRLLRRLLRRLL...)

    • 5-Stroke Roll

    • 9-Stroke Roll

    • 17-Stroke Roll

    • Flam

    • Flam Tap

    • Flam Accent No. 1 (NEW)

    • Paradiddle

Books: For now, just review all of the songs you have already done in Book 1 and the start of Book 2, if you have begun it. Focus on playing them to the best of your ability.

• Focus on playing them to the best of your ability.

  • Use your best sound with your best posture

  • Keep a steady beat and count every note

  • Watch for skips and get the notes correct

  • You can also use the CD in your Accent on Achievement books to play along with songs that we've already done!

Band music: Check out the main 5th Grade Band Page for links to the band songs that can help you practice, as well as practice guidelines.

Have fun playing your instrument! Make up your own song, play for your family, teach yourself a new song, but be sure you play often!

*I also added a link on the band page to a site with tons of free "fun" music. Explore that and find some music you are interested in learning.

May 26th

• • This week is "practice in a costume or a funny location" photo challenge week. Get dressed up in a costume or find a cool/funny/unique place to practice your instrument. Have someone take a picture and send it to me via email to share the fun! Songs for each group are listed below. Practice, record and submit them on EEI for feedback.

  • This will be our stopping point in the book for this year, nice work! Be sure to freshen up your band music, try out some of the fun tunes I have posted and have fun making music!

Dig out your favorite costume and practice all dressed up, have someone take a picture and send it in to me through email (marinid@victorschools.org). Use what you have, be creative and have fun! Pictures will be posted on our band page to share the fun with your bandmates!

  • Thank you to all students who have already submitted something! I'm loving your enthusiasm and creativity!

• This week, I would like all groups to work on the Recruitment Assignment, if you have not already submitted something for it. This can be in the form of a written emailed response, an audio file, or a video.

• Instructions can be found at the top of this page.

• I have left last week's assignment up so that you may also catch up if you have not submitted an assignment yet.

• If you have already submitted something for the "Recruitment Assignment" and have done your group's assignment from last week, then you may work on fun music at the bottom of this page and submit a recording of that.

All groups should work on the "Video Assignment for All Intermediate Musicians" that all of our musicians are encouraged to participate in. The music department is creating a few videos to share with our community to show how awesome the Victor Music Programs are and also to help with our 3rd Grade Recruitment, as things are going to have to be done a little differently this year. We need your help! Read the project details below and get in on the fun in a way you feel most comfortable. There are several ways you can join in. This will be part of your assignment for the next 3 weeks (Due May 15th), so take your time, be creative and please join in on the fun!

*** Please record the following Scales/Rudiments/Book assignments and send them to me this week. They do not have to be all sent at once. Take your time, there is no speed requirement. :) ***
