The Black Mountain Brigade is a battalion-sized detachment of 4th Mountain Rifle Regiment based at the Black Mountain Complex. It makes up the bulk of USRF soldiers currently deployed to the Sunrise Isles. Service members who belong to the Black Mountain Brigade are often grizzled veterans with many years of experience under their belt. They see the Sunrise Isles as their second home away from home, and the people of BMC as their peers. They are seen more as locals than regular USRF soldiers, which is both reflected in their behavior and battletested uniforms.
The Black Mountain Brigade heavily enforces the Mantle Act, with failure to abide leading to disciplinary action.
Soldiers in this unit can choose to abide by the Mantle Act with either upper or lower face covers.
The Black Mountain Brigade communicates mainly in Quebecois French, with 95% speaking it fluently. This is because an overwhelming majority of soldiers grew up in areas where French is the mother tongue.
A majority of soldiers in the Black Mountain Brigade field the XSR-5A1, XSR-5A2, or SR-51, due to familiarity with the rifles, and basic training with them at their time of enlistment in the 2150's.
The Black Mountain Brigade derogatorily refer to other USRF soldiers as Tourists, in part due to their relative short stay at BMC, and most of all because they lack proper experience out in the field.
The Penal Incursion Brigade is a company-sized detachment of 158th Penal Service Regiment based at Black Mountain Complex. Following the outlawing of PMCs by the new regime and the loss of numbers spent in the coup d'état, the Northeast Armed Forces had a growing need for an expendable force to fill the open space while losses were regained. The Penal Incursion Brigade is just one of many units formed to fulfill this role, though the 158th Penal Service Regiment is one of the few that are not immediately deployed to the South. Indebted members of the unit are recruited from Northeastern detention camps, where they are offered an opportunity to receive a presidential pardon upon completion of their service. With the unbearable conditions inmates are provided, many have taken this chance to take their freedom, swelling the ranks of the NEAF with a reliably inexpensive force to throw into the enemy. Identified by their outdated Early Militia era uniforms and lack of equipment, many members have found themselves deployed without even a weapon to carry. Above all else, one thing has become immediately and abundantly clear: You were never meant to survive.
Members of the unit are required to follow the Desolation Mode guide.
The Penal Incursion Brigade heavily enforces the Mantle Act with full facial covers, with failure to abide leading to disciplinary action.
Despite the strict enforcement of the mantle act, not every member was given or can even afford a face covering. This leads to a higher-than-usual discipline record among them along with the use of makeshift masks made from their own shirts or other scavenged items. Even still, there are many who refuse to wear facial coverings out of defiance.
The Penal Incursion Brigade does not have any 'official ranks', rather an internal system of respect and loyalty towards those that have the greatest amount of scavenged equipment and goods. These "Ringleaders" often lead groups or gangs of prisoners and - while often having decently sized followings - may find themselves in direct conflict with other group ringleaders for power... or even in danger of having their belongings, or life, stolen from them by other greedy penals if they aren't careful enough.
The Penal Incursion Brigade is directly overwatched by the Discipline Authority, and sometimes high-ranking officials of the USRF.
The Green Rifles is a company-sized detachment of 11th Manhattan Infantry Battalion based at Black Mountain Complex. It is a unit comprised almost entirely of mutants, with few exceptions being made to fill the middle- and high-level leadership with "more competent" human officers. Because of the NEU's stringent law on mutantism, most mutants see service in the USRF as an escape from the discrimination and harassment back in the mainland NEU. The Green Rifles are the most experienced USRF unit at BMC, second only to the Black Mountain Brigade. They have seen service in almost all active theaters of war, from the ruins of Canada to the trenches of the Deep South. Back in the homeland, when they are not deployed to fight enemies abroad, they are tasked with suppressing descent. As a Homeland Corps unit, they are also trained in riot control and breaking tension.
The Mantle Act is heavily enforced upon the Green Rifles with full face covers, with failure to abide leading to disciplinary action.
As an act of defiance against the hugely Anti-Mutant Regime, most Green Rifles do not cover their faces when outside of BMC.
Like the name entails, Green Rifles are entirely made up of only mutants in its lower and middle ranks. The only exceptions are its higher and leadership ranks where they may not be a mutant.
Green Rifles are one of the poorest units in the Lakeside Division, where even their Section Leaders have little to no personal protection, alongside with using equipment and weapons that have been passed down and being re-used, instead of being issued new ones.
Due to their circumstances, the overall morale of the unit varies throughout their members, and can either be very low or very high.
The Black Navy is a company-sized detachment of 238th Naval Infantry Brigade based at Black Mountain Complex. Under decree of President Dubois, the Black Navy is the fifth and most recent branch of the NEU's armed forces. As such the unit handles resupply for the Lakeside division, defense of its port and waters, and more advanced medical care for operations with casualties. This is done in coordination with Junior Section Leaders and above, in which the Navy will provide numerous forms of support, including transportation of various supplies, injured personnel, and on occasion supportive fire from the coast.
The Black Navy heavily enforces the Mantle Act, with failure to abide leading to disciplinary action.
Marines of the Black Navy should almost always be wearing their white Balaclavas to conserve their identity and for safety purposes.
The Black Navy has 2 colored life vests that represent the two sides of the Navy. Red lifevests are issued to any logistical job such as Logistics Officer or Helmsmen and Green lifevests are issued to combative jobs such as riflemen or heavy gunners
The Privates of the Black Navy are often referred to as Marines due to their job as Marine Infantry.
A unique position that the Reclamation Navy offers to those skilled and trained enough to manage vessels is the Helmsman role. This position allows a serviceman to operate small and sometimes larger watercrafts with permission from a Naval Officer.
The Navy sports white neckerchiefs as a sign of their loyalty to the Union. Rumors of Black Navy leadership punishing those for having dirty neckerchiefs spread, few believe these punishments ever go out.
The unit wears a specially modified blue RMU, having them stick out from other units in the Black Mountain Complex. Keep in mind, although these uniforms are made of slightly better material, they still aren't the most comfortable.
Despite using a different rank structure, the Black Navy is still under the same Director and Deputy Director.
After a Black Navy Marine's first operation, it is a common tradition that they will be given a tattoo to commemorate their beginnings as a Private. While this is not mandatory on paper, it's a proud tradition all Marines should adhere to.
The Biomass Containment Group is a company-sized detachment of 99th Biological Containment Battalion based at Black Mountain Complex. The company was formed as a response to the emergence of the Biomass on the Sunrise Isles on July 5th, 2164. Members of the Biomass Containment Group are extremely knowledgeable in chemical and biological hazard response, with many having years of experience and service as CBRN specialists. Servicemen within the battalion are screened and recruited from their original units before being brought to the mainland to receive rigorous training in Douglass, then redeployed across various fronts.
The Biomass Containment Group heavily enforces the Mantle Act, with failure to abide leading to disciplinary action.
Soldiers in this unit abide by the Mantle Act with issued gasmasks.
The 99th Biological Containment Battalion was among the first units formed during the creation of the Crisis Corps when the Subspecies Act of 2152 passed within the Northeast Union. It originally operated under the Northern Division before being moved to the Lakeside Division during the Biomass Crisis.
The 99th Biological Containment Battalion is directly attached to and overseen by the Department of Quarantine.
The Biomass Containment Group features a mixture of enlisted soldiers and scientists within the USRF.
NOTE: You may not create a character under the 99th Biological Containment Battalion as your first character if you are applying to the faction.
The Southern Repatriates is a company-sized detachment of 18th Motorized Infantry Battalion based at Black Mountain Complex. Members of the Southern Repatriates are former deserters, prisoners of war, or civilians from the Southern Union, Greater Texan Republic, or on rare occasions, the Free Appalachian State. Closely watched by members of the CSB and often forced to make do with whatever equipment they managed to carry with them, these servicemembers have thrown away their former lives for the opportunity of earning citizenship within the Northeast Union. They are renowned for their work across several fronts, being among the oldest Foreign Legion units still operating within the Northeast Armed Forces and are responsible for maintaining and operating the motorpool of Black Mountain Complex, transporting ground forces across the Sunrise Isles, and conducting motorized operations.
The Southern Repatriates do not enforce the Mantle Act due to the identity safety procedures not applying to Foreign Legion.
Despite not being an official rule, some choose to continue to cover their identities regardless in order to protect their families back in Southern territories or from outraged civilians in the NEU.
The Southern Repatriates communicate in a variety of languages depending on their country of origin. Most GTR expatriates speak TexMex Spanish, a post-flash dialect from Texas. Many SU expatriates and some GTR expatriates speak Cajun French, often used as a stand in for Quebecois French within the Southern Repatriates.
The Southern Repatriates use a mix of gear from the NEU and their respective countries of origin.
Most of the Southern Repatriates drivers and crewman are from the GTR, while most of the infantry are from the SU. There are fewer members of the FAS within the unit, those that are mostly fill infantry roles.
The 18th Motorized Infantry Battalion is among the oldest Foreign Legion units as it was founded during the birth of the Foreign Legion branch on June first, 2154. They have served in almost every major conflict since the Roanoke Conflict.
The Southern Repatriates and the CSB often do not see eye to eye, as a result discipline is often handled internally by senior members from the respective country of origin of the offender.
The Northern Repatriates is a company-sized detachment of 32nd Trench Infantry Battalion based at Black Mountain Complex. Members of the Northern Repatriates are retired veteran soldiers of the Coalition or former prisoners of war from the Interim Government of Canada. Closely watched by members of the CSB and often forced to make do with whatever equipment they managed to carry with them, these servicemembers have thrown away their former lives for the opportunity of earning citizenship within the Northeast Union. They are specialized in defense, urban combat, and trench warfare. They serve the responsibility of holding and penetrating defenses for the Reclamation Forces on the Sunrise Isles. While being a relatively new unit compared to other Foreign Legion units, the individual experience of their members in the field shouldn't be underestimated.
The Northern Repatriates do not enforce the Mantle Act due to the identity safety procedures not applying to Foreign Legion.
Despite not being an official rule, many choose to continue to cover their identities regardless in order to protect their families back in Northern territories or from outraged civilians in the NEU.
The Northern Repatriates are hardly issued their own equipment from the USRF. Besides their RCU, which come in varying conditions, they are entirely reliant upon the unit's massive surplus of Canadian and Coalition equipment. Low ranks in this unit might be seen using the Coalition's leather protective vest OR the Canadian flak vest. Alongside using versions of XSR-5A1, XSR-5A2, and SR-51, they also have a number of Weavers and its variants in their armory.
The Northern Repatriates have the largest age range of any unit stationed in Black Mountain, from being 21-62. The average age of a soldier in the NP is 37.
Because of these vet's experiences in battle, a lot of members are left emotionally cold and hardened by the experiences they carry with them. Additionally, it's not uncommon to see a Northern Repatriate member with different severities of post-traumatic stress.
The Northern Repatriates, despite their diversity in where they've come from, hold one thing dear to them: each other. A mural dedicated to the 32é is kept alongside the unit's colors.
The Northern Repatriates carry great survival skills with them in extreme weather conditions and have "learned to live in the suck" when faced with these harsh conditions.
A tradition amongst the Northern Repatriates is making maple syrup. It is taught to each and every member, and every spring they will collect large amounts of it from trees, making an array of maple syrup flavored items like maple snow cones, maple syrup taffy, etc. This tradition amongst the Northern Repatriates has also found itself to be handy in desperate survival situations.
